Sarah Michael Singleton received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in 1971
and her J.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1974. During law school,
Ms. Singleton served as an editor of the Indiana Law Journal. She graduated
magna cum laude and was elected to Order of the Coif. Ms. Singleton was inducted
into the Indiana University School of Law Alumni Fellows in 1996.
Ms. Singleton was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1974. She is admitted to
practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico,
the United States Court of Federal Claims, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals,
and the United States Supreme Court. She is also a member of the Texas State
Bar. In 1985, Ms. Singleton joined Montgomery & Andrews, P.A., where she
is a shareholder in the firm's litigation section.
Ms. Singleton was President of the State Bar of New Mexico (1995-1996). Ms.
Singleton also served as a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners (1989-1997)
and as a member of the Disciplinary Board (1989-1995). Ms. Singleton has been
appointed by President Bush to serve on the Legal Services Corporation board
of directors. Ms. Singleton also serves co-chair of the New Mexico Access to
Justice Commission. She previously served as co-chair of the State Bar's Committee
on Legal Services and Programs, on the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and
Indigent Defense, and on the ABA Ad Hoc Committee on State Justice Initiatives.
Ms. Singleton has served as President of the First Judicial District Bar Association,
Chair of the Board of Bar Examiners, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Northern
New Mexico Legal Services and Chair of the Bar's Task Force on Women and the
Legal Profession. Ms. Singleton has been awarded the State Bar’s Pioneer
Award and the Distinguished Service Award and has twice received the State Bar's
Outstanding Contribution Award; she has also been awarded the State Bar's Outstanding
Service Award and has received an award for Outstanding Service to the Court
and the Judiciary.
Ms. Singleton has been heavily involved in the litigation of natural resources
cases, including natural gas contract cases, royalty accounting cases, business
torts, mineral lessee/land owner disputes, personal injury cases, and mining
cases. Ms. Singleton has also litigated employment matters. She has participated
in litigation involving products liability, environmental issues, insurance
coverage, and a number of other matters. Ms. Singleton's experience includes
participation in approximately 200 appeals in state and federal courts. Ms.
Singleton has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. She is also listed as a
